Product Traceability

The Bioterrorism Act of 2002 mandated that food processing and manufacturing plants and facilities maintain accurate source information for each and every ingredient they use on their plant floors.  Specifically, Title III of this law charged the Food and Drug Administration with keeping tabs on food processing and manufacturing companies.  Title III requires that companies keep detailed source information on where the ingredient(s) came from, where they’re going, and where they currently are in the given processing facility.  The FDA can ask for this information at any time.  As such, ingredient and product traceability for food have become important business processes for facilities and plants throughout the country.

A product traceability system ensures Title III compliance.  This is because all source data is automatically carried with the ingredients or mixes throughout the processing facility, on to shipping, and finally the customer.  Multiple lot or batch numbers of ingredients can be included into one batch because of the detailed record keeping in a product traceability system.

Automated Product Traceability Systems are a Must for Modern Food Manufacturing, Processing Companies

Through installation of Formula and Batch Control, and Lot Tracking Software, as a product traceability system, companies securely record source information in compliance with Title III.  But this is not the only benefit of a product traceability program like this.  Batch yield increases of 5% are the average, as is reducing batch cycle times by 20% and reducing ingredient losses by up to 95%.  Using a product traceability program like this MES system, the result is higher production, increased profits, and an absolute ROI on ingredient management and the security and peace of mind of total product traceability.
