Check weighing at processing and manufacturing facilities ensures high quality end products, but it concurrently does much more than that: check weighing protects a company’s brand and business reputation.
Through a greater consistency of high quality products, a company with check weighing in its production line has customers who are happier because they have to return less purchased product and no longer have to rely on shipment credits to get more of the product they need. Check weighing serves as a quality control point for a processing or manufacturing company.
Check Weighing = Quality Control
Using a belt system, check weighing consists of ready-to-ship product going down the belt and over a load cell or scale. The requisite information is then sent to a computer that has a built-in set of quality control tolerances. The product’s weight is then compared to these ranges, and through check weighing, the product is cleared for shipment or rejected.
Other types of check weighing for high-precision quality control also exist. Electromagnetic force restoration (EMFR) uses a charged coil to measure increases and decreases of ferrous materials basically ‘floating’ along the belt and passing over the coil.
As with all types of machinery and equipment, preventative maintenance and calibration are critical for a check weighing system to operate optimally.
