Over-scaling by as much as 5% has historically occurred on the production floor. The development of PRIMS Computer Integrated Scaling (PRIMS-CISS Video, see below) will eliminate the ingredient loss and recipe inconsistencies resulting from out of tolerance weighing. Scale operators can now work from a computer generated work plan, or may request formulas to scale at the scale terminal. The scale will keep the operator within allowable tolerances, by not letting them go to the next step unless the scaled amount is within tolerance. PRIMS is designed to simplify and refine manual batch scaling, manual pre-scaling, and production line piece weight checking. The computerized scale also has an option for ingredient food lot Traceability or Tracking, enabling Title III compliance..

1. The formula is entered into the scale system, either manually or by computer.
2. The operator is instructed on which ingredient to add next, and how much.
3. The operator either scans or manually enters the ingredient lot number.
4. The operator adds the ingredient. The scale will not let the operator proceed until the ingredient’s weight is within tolerance, thus ensuring a more accurate batch.
5. Scaling and lot Traceability or Tracking reports can then be generated.

Management Control

PRIMS is user-friendly, requiring little or no experience to operate. This flexible technology gives management far more control over manual operations. Controlling all manual ingredient additions and operator instructions, and the computerized record of each step in the mixing process, provides management with the tools to pinpoint any inconsistencies within a batch. PRIMS generates reports for Ingredients, Formulas, Production, Scaling, Ingredient Usage, and Lot Numbers. Managers can import used inventory and finished production data into the company’s accounting software for accurate inventory control.
